Does daylight saving save energy?

Did you change all of your clocks on Nov. 3, the end of daylight saving time?

You might be wondering about the purpose of daylight saving time. Didn't it start when people still rode horses everywhere? Does it save energy?

Benjamin Franklin gets the credit for the idea of daylight saving, according to David Prerau, author of “Seize the Daylight: The Curious and Contentious Story of Daylight Saving Time.”

But the first world leader to enact daylight saving on a mass scale was Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, who wanted to save energy during World War I. The United States and England followed suit.

Today, most research shows that daylight saving time saves just a slight amount of energy. More energy is saved in mild climates, such as California, where daylight saving time saves about 1 percent of energy daily, according to estimates by the Department of Energy.

Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, the Northern Marianas, and the Virgin Islands don't even observe daylight saving time.

Electric consumer complaints fall in Texas

Here's some news that shows the popularity of deregulation in Texas (Note: Blue Pilot Energy does not currently serve Texas).

Electric consumer complaints are at a low since deregulation started in 2002, according to research by the Texas Coalition for Affordable Power.

Complaints have decreased almost 17 percent since 2012, and a whopping 50 percent in the last four years!!!

Officials with the coalition said Texans are enjoying the effect of lower natural gas prices on electricity rates, and are becoming more and more comfortable with how deregulation works.

These survey results from one of the largest states in the nation show that deregulation is great!!!

What makes Blue Pilot different?

Blue Pilot Energy is an independent energy marketer that focuses on helping business and residential customers save money and obtain the best value in the competitive energy marketplace.

The Electricity Generation and Customer Choice and Competition Act in Pennsylvania has created opportunities for consumers to acquire energy plans that meet their needs and lower their costs. But the process can be confusing and the price structures can be complex.

Blue Pilot Energy eliminates those concerns for the consumer, through a combination of industry knowledge and outstanding customer service.

You will still receive one electricity bill from the utility, there are no cancellation fees, service charges or credit checks. The incumbent distribution company continues to deliver electricity over the same transmission lines.

Number of Pennsylvania customers switching to new electric suppliers nears 2 million.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission reported that 1,835,051 business and residential utility customers have switched to a new electric generation supplier since 2011. That represents 32.5 percent of the state’s power customers. Alternative suppliers currently deliver 58.6 percent of the state’s load of megawatt hours.

The Electricity Generation Customer Choice and Competition Act was enacted in 1999 in Pennsylvania. The act allows Pennsylvania consumers to choose between competitive electricity providers based on their energy use and price requirements.

Want to save money on energy?

Leave heating and cooling vents uncovered by furniture, rugs and planters.  Obstructions will make your heating and air conditioning work harder.

In the summer, take advantage of breezy days and open windows when you can, to limit air conditioner use.

Consider buying and installing a modern, programmable thermostat. These can be programmed to adjust the heating and cooling in your home depending on when you work, sleep and travel.

When air conditioning and heating systems make strange noises or slow down, arrange service promptly. Malfunctioning systems are usually also wasteful systems.
